ABR’s “Black Box” / $100 deposit, $100 install, $27/month
The black box is installed into a persons’ vehicle and programmed to capture certain driving data that is indicative of unsafe vehicle operations. The black box collects data about speeds in excess of 70 MPH (number of times, actual speed, duration of each incident), excessive turning forces and excessive braking/acceleration forces. It also records miles driven, number of starts/stops, and other important data. Each month the user brings the data card to ABR’s office and a ONE PAGE summary report is generated for Probation that details each of the data fields.
The most important feature of the black box is the cognitive behavioral feedback that is provided when a driving parameter is exceeded (for instance, when the driver exceeds 70 MPH). The black box will emit a beeping tone until the driving behavior is corrected (until the driver slows down). Over time this feedback leads to greater awareness and true behavioral change.
